“What we're saying is that you're either part of the
solution, or you're part of the problem.”
Eldridge Cleaver
Solving Workplace Problems emphasises the
use of both logic and creativity for problem analysis and for developing effective solutions.
Learners explore a variety of methods for solving
problems, including a four-step process for solving complex organisational problems.
After exploring techniques to stimulate creative
problem solving, learners work with a video case study of an organisational problem, for which they
write a problem statement; perform an analysis of
the problem and situation factors that are relevant;
and then develop solutions. The video then shows
how the company in the case study analysed and
solved the problem. Learners are encouraged to
compare their results and assess their own work.
Finally, small groups of learners define and solve
a problem from their own work situations or from
other case studies provided.
The 4-step process learnt in Solving Workplace
Problems enables learners to solve on-the-job problems independently, as well as in team
situations. The process itself requires learners to
justify the solutions in order to ensure that they are
more relevant than other possible solutions; and
will deliver the required outcomes at the necessary
standards.
