Professionalism in the Office

You can never be too professional, too well-organised, too efficient or too productive!!

This workshop deals with the importance of professionalism and the skills and knowledge required to enhance levels of professional behaviour and service.

Learners examine world class standards of professional performance, and focus on developing skills and techniques to enhance their effectiveness and productivity.

The five major topics addressed are:

  • Understanding corporate culture and identifying your role as a service professional. This section facilitates understanding the organisation and the importance of the service function in context.
  • Professional behaviour addresses the key behaviours associated with professional behaviour and performance in a service environment.
  • Communication in a service role focuses on the importance of OK-OK communication behaviour styles in a service role. Learners develop basic assertiveness skills that promote co-operation and teamwork with team leaders, co-workers and internal and external supplier and customer partners.
  • Time management and personal organisation to enhance service professionalism. Some of the key issues dealt with during this section of Professionalism in the Office workshop include organising work; prioritising; managing workflow effectively; identifying and minimising the effect of time wasters; and action planning to perform at peak levels of productivity and service.
  • Motivation and self-development of the service professional as an ongoing requirement in effective service delivery.
 

Outcomes

Learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate professional skills and behaviours in the workplace

  • Perform in accordance with the organisation's values, policies, procedures and philosophy
  • Improve behaviour related to interpersonal communication and courtesy

Requirements

Entry requirement:
Senior Certificate and/or minimum six months work experience

Pre-workshop requirements:
Sample of current diary / time-management system

Post-workshop requirements:
Knowledge questionnaire; observation assessment and skill application assignment

Learners receive:
Workshop material packaged in a time management diary; 'to-do' lists; address lists; yearly planner; monthly planners and daily planners
